J.D. THOMAS, CFSI, CCDI
J.D. is the founder and CEO of Forensic Consulting Services. J.D. is a Forensic Science Analyst and Licensed Private Investigator. His interest in Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation goes back to November of 1978, while serving in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. It was at this time that the mass suicide/homicide tragedy occurred in Jonestown, Guyana. His unit was tasked with the "humanitarian relief and support of American citizens in Georgetown, Guyana", supporting over a hundred recovery missions.
Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, J.D. served as a Firefighter for five years before beginning his career in Law Enforcement in 1986. It was then that he began his studies in the field of Forensic Science and advancing to Master Detective/Police Officer in the Forensic Science Division. Most recently, he worked as a Criminal & Forensic Science Investigator, and as a Capital Mitigation Specialist for the Office of the Public Defender in the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Florida. In one form or another, he has served his country and its citizens for over 40 years, with the last 37 of those years as an Investigator/Detective. Through his work for both the Prosecution (Police) and the Defense, he gained an unbiased view of our Judicial System and the need for fairness and equality in the courtroom.
J.D. is a graduate of the Virginia Forensic Science Academy, where he served as Class President of the 42nd. Session. He has been recognized by Courts in Virginia and Florida and in Federal Courts as an Expert in many facets of Forensic Science. J.D. is a Board Certified Forensic Science Investigator and a Board Certified Criminal Defense Investigator through The Criminal Defense Investigation Training Council. He is also a member of the Florida Emergency Mortuary Operations Response System, as well as several other professional organizations. He has recently complied with all the requirements of the Constitution and By-Laws and has been declared to have achieved the status of Life Active Member of both The Virginia Forensic Science Academy Alumni Association as well as The International Association for Identification with over 25 years of membership.
J.D. has conducted forensic analysis and consulted on several high profile criminal cases throughout Florida and the country. Many of those cases have been highlighted on Dateline, 20/20, Good Morning America, Forensic Files, and several other T.V. crime shows. In the summer of 2022, J.D. was asked by an attorney to assist in a case against one of the people arrested in the events on January 6, 2021. J.D. was invited to be a part of an investigative team to conduct a "crime scene walkthrough" on August 27, 2022 of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. that allowed access to areas restricted to the general public.
